The Wachowski’s took the world by storm in 1999 with the film The Matrix. It grossed over $400 million dollars at the box office and won numerous awards including four Academy Awards.
Both sequels to The Matrix (Reloaded and Revolutions) were released in 2003. Reloaded would shatter box office expectations, bringing in over $700 million. Revolutions’ showing was a bit more tame, bringing in a little over $400 million.
Since 2003, rumors and speculations about a fourth Matrix film have made their way around the internet. Fans were beginning to give up hope when, finally, the official trailer for the fourth installment dropped.
The Matrix Resurrections will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett will all reprise their respective roles in the franchise. Neil Patrick Harris and Christina Ricci will also be joining the cast.
