Who is The Skies Are Shifting?

The Skies are Shifting are a band based in Chicago. The group’s concept was originally formed when singer Jack Emery and drummer Mike Pittacora were at a music festival.

At that point, they were only in the 8th grade. As they moved on to high school and met more link minded people, the true bones of the band began to take shape.

The idea took a back seat for a few years and during the last few years of college resurfaced. Recruiting old friend Ian Leyden (bass) and a virtual stranger on the internet as a second guitar player, the band began to flourish.

Their new EP, Don’t Be Afraid to Drown will serve as their official debut, although the band were writing and playing shows for well over a year before this release.

The first two words that came to mind upon first listen were dense and theatrical. Think The Dear Hunter meets Glassjaw. Not a combination you’d normally expect but I think the band is onto something with this.

There are some super loud and fast moments on “Masquerade” that will make any old school punk fan feel at home.
Anyone who likes progressive rock should check out “Long Sleeve”.

There are times on the EP where you can hear math rock influence, especially during the breakdowns. It’s clear that every member has poured their eclectic influences into this project.
