Julia Bhatt is a 19 year-old singer/songwriter who’s originally from Boston and is now based in Miami.
Releasing her first single only a few years ago in 2019, Bhatt has made huge strides in a very short amount of time.
At the time of writing this, she has amassed a solid 18,000+ monthly listeners on Spotify.
Her new release is a 90 second single that’s appropriately titled “1:30”.
She refers to this song as more of an experiment, leaning more toward the pop end of the sonic spectrum.
The song speaks to her disgust with the social media hierarchy in the music industry.
The track starts out almost foggy, quickly switching to a wavy pop number.
There’s an element of hip-hop/R&B influence, especially in Bhatt’s vocal performance.
The lo-fi instrumental bends and stretches and can only be described as sounding medicated.
The line “Ain’t it funny we watch other people live” really makes you think about how much of your own life you surrender just to consume someone else’s.
