jarodpanda is an 18-year old producer from Sydney, Australia. He has technically been making with music since age 13 but admits that when he first started, he really didn’t take it seriously.
He began making hip-hop and trap beats and quickly ended up falling in love with sub-genres of electronic dance music.
Artists like Flume and Lido inspired him to continue creating and make a sound of his own.
His new EP, Understand was created when he was dealing with the pressures of graduating high school. This release finds him experimenting with his own vocals for the first time.
“Out of Place” starts out super 8-bit and morphs into a dark bedroom pop type beat. For someone who has never put vocals on a track, he does a really impressive job.
There’s a really dope tropical house type drop around the 1:40 mark that made me start moving.
“Pressure” has an amazing vocal effect that makes it almost feel like a Bon Iver track at the beginning.
The song opens up after about 30 seconds and has an almost future bass quality to the synths.
This ended up being my favorite track on the EP after many listens.
“Understand” sounds like it should be in a Legend of Zelda soundtrack (if Zelda had more swag). The use of flute or pan flute sounds definitely brings a fantasy element to the table that doesn’t exist on the rest of the EP.
This is the glitchiest track out of the 3, but you wouldn’t guess so at first.
Again, the breakdowns that he comes up with are next level.
This whole EP flows together well and is interesting from start to finish. Each song will have you moving in it’s own right. I’m very curious to see what else jarodpanda has in store for the rest of 2021.
