It seems that in a time where certain artists have been stagnant, Sexjacket refuses to stay still. Every time I turn around he’s dropped a new single, and to be honest they’ve all been solid. But releasing “solid songs” doesn’t seem to be the aim here. I really believe Sexjacket is well on his way to creating some viral songs and more importantly some anthems for a new generation of music listeners. He’s back with two new singles that find him venturing into new territory:
“Enigma” was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Sexjacket and features vocalist Lyric Paige.
The hook is a female vocal sample that he chopped up and pitched down to give a darker ambient vibe to the song.
The beginning of this track has a deep house vibe to it. It’s hard not to get lost in the audio aesthetic. I can’t help but draw comparisons to Lund and Hucci.
The aim was more for creating a vibe than a typical pop song, according to Sexjacket. This song has more of a somber tone than what we’ve heard from him in the past and finds him exploring more types of sounds.
“October” begins with a lo-fi inspired instrumental and fades into a more typical trap song that’s reminiscent of Travis Scott or Young Thug vibe wise.
I do like that Sexjacket is experimenting with some darker sonic tones. I think this “alternative R&B” sound fits his vocal style and flow very well. I’m always happy to see artists trying new things, especially when what they’ve been doing is working.
It takes a certain type of artist to take risks and I think we’ve only seen the beginning of Sexjacket’s capabilities.
Let’s not forget we are still awaiting a feature-packed LP that is due out sometime in the near future.
