Brian Quirk is Leading the New Emo Revival

Brian Quirk is a singer/songwriter from Philadelphia, PA.
He is relatively new to the music scene (as a solo act). His debut album What Makes You Happy was just released October 9th, 2020.
The newest single,”Rosey”, has a lyric video that enlisted the help of fans and friends from all over the world:

When I first heard “Rosey”, I legitimately thought that this was some alias for Ace Enders (The Early November). I told Brian that via DM and he mentioned that his old band did get pretty close with TEN back in the day.

One of the consistent threads throughout this record is not overdoing things. These songs are clearly written from a place of honesty and openness and the delivery allows that to shine through.
This brings me back to the mid 2000’s in a big way. Anyone who’s a fan of The Early November, The Get Up Kids, Sunny Day Real Estate or emo music in general should already be listening to Brian Quirk.
There’s a simplicity that makes this album really soothing.

Quirk was faced with a ton of obstacles in the process of creating his debut record. From homelessness to hospitalization, he overcame his circumstances and created a beautiful album through them.
Through the process of it’s creation, Brian was incurring more costs than he could afford. He seriously debated selling his car to his producer Derek Holminski, he recalls,

“I was so focused on getting this album done; there were a few times I really thought I was gonna leave my car there and hitchhike home. As long as it kept the ball rolling.” -BQ

He did not end up having to sell his car and he continues to persevere and has begun to focus on a second LP that’s due out in 2021.
