Jack Louis Cooper is a 24 year old singer/songwriter from Bristol, UK.
He makes what I would consider a cross between Folk, Country, and Nashville Rock.
His contemporary lyricism touching on themes of masculinity, connection, and finding your way in your early 20’s.
He cites his immediate influences as artists like Sam Fender and The War on Drugs. I personally hear hints of Kings of Leon and The Stills influence as well.
Cooper just released his brand new EP, A Slow But Sure Corner. The opening track, “Bite Too Big” is a good indicator of how strong this release is. It’s a folk inspired pop song that would make Conor Oberst proud, complete with a killer sax solo.
The vocal tone makes me think this music somehow stems from New Wave in certain ways also.
Music is clearly very personal for Jack and he doesn’t shy away from exploring his own insecurities or demons within his songs.
The use of alternative instruments mixed with a sound that feels like the woods in Fall give this EP a quality similar to early 2000’s Saddle Creek Records. This is definitely from the same family tree as bands like The Good Life and Cursive.
