“You Need to Hear This” is the debut single from Eastern Leaves, a moniker used by solo musician Ian Sugrue.
He is currently working on getting a Ph. D in mathematics. As if that wasn’t enough of a challenge, Ian decided to embark on a journey in the music industry simultaneously.
I respect that. There’s something very smart about not putting all your eggs in one basket.
“You Need to Hear This” opens with a vocal hook which is delivered in a way that made me do a double take to see if I pressed play on Alkaline Trio.
There’s an obvious influence from mid 2000’s pop punk/emo. Frankly, it’s a genre I miss and it’s nice to see someone chanelling the cosmic energy of bands like The Starting Line and Cute is What We Aim For.
