Daphne Dro is a 21 year old singer/songwriter who’s currently based in France by way of Florida.
She got into music early in life and began performing at her local Broadway theatre at the age of nine. Despite being based in Paris, her upbringing in Key Biscane, Florida gave her insight into American pop culture.
She released her first single in August of 2020 under a different moniker. Just a year later she dropped the stage name and went ahead full force.
Her new single “Honestly, I” is the first she has released under her given name. The track was born during quarantine when her producer Jules Darmon sent over the main guitar riff. The rest of the song came easily and put Dro’s pent up creative energy to work.
“Honestly, I” is a playful pop song with some darker elements sprinkled in.
It brought me back to the 90’s pop I grew up with.
For everyone who attended early 2000’s Warped Tour, this song kept reminding me of Meg & Dia.
There are some cool echo-y effects but overall the production is very modest.
This single also found Daphne up against her next big challenge, her first music video. With the help of director Kalki Rielland, they created a fictional high school universe as the setting for the visual component. Think Clueless meets Mean Girls.
