Eleonora is a 16-year old DIY artist from Turin, Italy.
Unlike many, she did not have musicianship running through her blood. Her family had no interest in it, which admittedly fueled her passion even more.
After learning piano in grade school, she got tired of being told what to play. At age 13, she decided to teach herself how to play the ukulele. She had no previous knowledge of music theory and didn’t even know how to read sheet music. Her pure dedication and perseverance led her to learn to play using only YouTube tutorials.
Quickly after that she began exploring the world of playing guitar and recording music.
She recalls aiming for a level of perfection that didn’t exist. She spent almost a year making music that just sat on a hard drive.
She remembers having a moment of clarity and realizing that if she didn’t figure out how to release her own material, no one else was going to do it.
In the summer of 2020, she released her first single “Alice”.
Her third official track, “In the City” incorporates hip-hop influence into her usual brand of bedroom pop. In true DIY fashion, the song is written, performed and produced by Eleonora herself.
Bouncy synths and breathy vocals bring us into the track. Eleonora’s tone and vocal delivery remind me a lot of one of my favorites growing up, Fiona Apple.
There’s an undeniable attitude in her presence on a song. You know she doesn’t take any shit.
“In The City” is a perfect ratio of pop and hip-hop influence. I don’t want to focus too much on her age, but I would never have guessed Eleonora was a teenager. This sounds like the work of a seasoned vet, from the vocals to the production.
Samples of records scratching in the background are a nice added touch to an already strong track.
Considering this is only Eleonora’s third single, I’m curious to see what she has up her sleeve for the rest of 2021.
