LockJaw is a brand new group out of New York who’s releasing their debut EP, Marble, today.
First off, A+ for the album art. It’s very simple, effective, and sets an accurate tone for the sound of the EP.
The opening track “Vampyre” reminds me of a heavier TAYF era Taking Back Sunday.
This band should have toured with Alkaline Trio. There are lots of darker concepts and lyrics that are clearly a catharsis for the band.
“Ice Climbers” feels a little more like mainstream rock. The driving guitar riffs are strangely reminiscent of early Seether.
The third track “Garden” would definitely not sound out of place with someone screaming in the background. No unclean vocals here, but that doesn’t take away from the fervent delivery of these lyrics. The breakdown on “Garden” is one of my favorite moments on this EP.
“Space” is a well placed more ambient track that serves as a great interlude to this debut.
By the time I got to the track “Pavement” I was thinking it’s a shame Warped Tour is over because these guys would kill. They deliver a great mix of alt rock, punk and emo.
The closer “Opiate” really sums the whole release up well. It’s heavy without being overwhelming. Like I said before, the mixture of influence is injected really well into these songs.
