This past week, we were able to catch an interview with Tacet as they were waiting for their time to do their soundcheck. A Tampa, Florida based math rock band, which they didn’t even start as.
Their story begins back in high school where Tyler, Nick and Bryan met in school. They had been playing together as a Progressive Metalcore band called Vitalist.
Since then, their individual taste in music began to change. Tacet was born as a side project for the guys, leaning towards the musical influences of Chon and Polyphia, their sound evolved.
“It was really hard to get our friends to get to come to metal shows that were not into metal, so we swapped it up a little bit,” Tyler said describing their reason for transition. “I think fusion is more important than the same ol’ same ol’, mixing it up is important.”
They were still the original 3 piece set up. Until Ben came along. “I went to an Eidola show and saw this really shitty local band opening up and I’m like ‘Wow, they are bad.” Ben jokingly begins his story on his discovery and joining of Tacet.
“It was actually hilarious, because i saw them and never thought I would see them again.
So one day I go to this local taco shop and I walked in, and there I see this guy (Tyler). He playing is playing Eidola and i went to him and commented that I liked that band. Tyler responded, ‘yea my band just opened for Eidola,’ and I’m like ‘Wait! You guys were that shitty band!’ and he was like ‘Hell yea we are, we are still looking for a bass player.”
Thankfully they are currently working on new music, “Hopefully like by the beginning of next year, we can have an EP or close to full length album”
It seems like these young men are making way into the local Central Florida music scene. You can catch them on the lineup for the last Hope Fest here in Brandon, Florida in November.
