MY 10 FAVORITE ALBUMS: Hello, Atlantic

Since changing to a 3-piece earlier last year, Hello, Atlantic has spent months refining their melodic and expertly intricate style, drawing on elements of indie, pop and alternative. “Night Life” was the band’s first new track since the re-brand, delivering a sound brimming with energy, crafty breakdowns and hooks galore; think early Panic at The Disco meets Ice Nine Kills.

Coverage from Kerrang and AP coupled with a main stage Warped Tour slot has helped bring the Northeast rockers on everyone’s radar. Hello, Atlantic dropped the Night Life EP just a few weeks ago and the band took some time to reflect on their influences:

IAN (Guitar/Vocals)

I, The Mighty – Where The Mind Wants To Go/ Where You Let It Go

“This is just a powerful album. The songs on this album get stuck in my head every when I don’t listen to it for a long time.”

Chon – Homey

“This is my feel good album that I listen to when I need something positive to help me through a tough time.”

Owl City – Ocean Eyes

“This album gets me through all the hard times. I always listen to it when it rains. Plus, “Fireflies” is the greatest song ever written.”

RYAN (Drums)

Atreyu – The Curse

“By far my favorite album, this was the first album I heard by Atreyu and any metal band at the time. They soon became my favorite band, the creativity and powerful vocals really hit hard on this one.”

Green Day – Dookie

“Another first album for me, this was that eye opener into the world of punk music. The energy and edge to their music and lyrics really pulled me into the whole genre but more importantly fall in love with Green Day.”

Avenged Sevenfold – Self Titled

“I hold this album up in my top 3 for many reasons, the creativity and willingness to write such a vast variety of songs that all sound completely different from each other as well as from anything they had done in the past. When this album came out I had just began drumming and quickly looked up to The Rev, who did alot of writing on this album, between lyrics, piano, guitar and obviously the drums. It was just a very well written and amazing album that really showcased everyone’s abilities.”

ERIC (Bass)

Blink 182 – Blink 182

“This record changed the way I listen to music. I was about 13 when it came out, and I listened to it about 10 times the day I got it. It’s the record that I always go to whenever I’m going through a tough time. Hearing the opening drum beat to “Feeling This” always gets me pumped. For me, I don’t think there will ever be another record like this one.”

Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory

Hybrid Theory was a record that was definitely way ahead of its time. There will never be another record that sounds like it. The song writing and all of the production from Mike Shinoda is fantastic. I was lucky enough to see them live in 2014. After the passing of Chester last year, I listened to nothing but this record and Minutes to Midnight on repeat for a month straight. This record is a one of a kind.”

Alkaline Trio – Is This Thing Cursed?

“Even though this record is fairly new, only coming out at the end of August, it’s one that I’ve replayed quite often. Since this was the first Alkaline Trio record in 5 years, my expectations were pretty high, and they didn’t disappoint. As soon as they released the first single “Blackbird”, I knew I was about to get a great record from one of my favorite bands.”
