DOCTORHEWITT (Hewitt Kraufeld) is a 20 year old producer/event organizer from San Carlos Park, Florida.
He grew up in a family that valued music whether they played instruments or were educated in music history.
That exposure to music influenced him to start releasing music in 2015. Most of his music is, in his own words, “soundtrack material”. He’s been breaking away from instrumental pieces to collaborate with some vocalists and rappers like LXCCA and Wakizashi.
Wakizashi is a 19 year old vocalist/songwriter/producer from North Fort Myers, Florida.
He was an early pioneer of the alternative rap scene with notable singles such as “FUCK ME” and “King Cobra”.
Before 2016, his only interest was in being behind the mixer in a producer role. He quickly decided to try his hand at recording vocals as a way to express himself.
He is also the founder of a music collective called DeadLocals.
Hewitt and Wakizashi met in 2017 and instantly hit it off and became friends. They entertained the idea of working together on music but felt that their tastes were just too different to make it work.
Two years later in 2019, a vocalist known as June was living with Kaufield. They had decided to begin work on a project and enlisted the help of their friend Wakizashi to record the sessions. Several songs were finished and the project got put on hold due to conflicting schedules.
In December of 2019 Kraufeld reached out to Wakizashi and suggested a plan to record a full length album that would showcase their production and songwriting abilities respectively.
They got together and recorded a track titled “Spoilage” which would end up being the first single.
Every few months the two would reconvene to add more to this monstrous project. It had started as an EP and quickly evolved into something much more than that.
They had found a way to build a collective (in theory) on an LP.
This new project, The Same Four Walls, finds Hewitt and Wakizashi taking a truly DIY approach writing, engineering, recording, mixing and mastering the entire album themselves.
“The meaning and theme behind The Same Four Walls is more dark than uplifting despite some tracks having a good happy feeling to them. The title comes from the idea that we both have been making music for a long period of time and we aren’t seeing a lot of success out of it. Hence, why we are still surrounded by the same four walls that make up our rooms because there hasn’t been enough success to change our setting.
The album juggles ideas of hoping for near future success, reflection on the very stagnant point of our music careers and how it tears us down. Also foreshadowing the success we hope to bring by speaking on materialistic things. Even though Wakizashi is the one expressing it vocally, I’m still in the same boat as him.” -Kraufeld
